Happy New Year!

A New Year... An Old Promise... A New You!

If you had to live last year over again, how many of you would do something differently? Most of us in this room!

Think about an ordinary day in your life... all of us have STUFF that needs to be done.

  • Work – office, job site, store, bosses, managers, employees

John Maxwell writes:  “Outside of your genetic predisposition, the number one determinant of your longevity is how well you like your work.”

  • Personal tasks – sleep, hygiene, eat, exercise, healthcare
  • Household – groceries, meal prep, clothes to wash, floors to clean, grass to cut, bills
  • Social obligations – married life, children
  • Car
  • Recreation - television, go to a movie or read a book, develop a hobby or go on a vacation
  • Unexpected things – sickness, relatives visit, crisis…

We all have stuff that just needs to get done, but on top of all the little activities that eat away at our time, there are a few things that really matter. There are some things that I want my life to be about.

TEXT:  Matthew 6:33

T – Transformation

  • To “...grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)
  • To find myself becoming progressively more and more like Jesus Christ... long for Christ to be fully formed and developed in me (Galatians 4:19).

A big part of how TRANSFORMATION happens in my life is by me getting real deliberate about spending some time alone with God.

Prayer was a regular aspect of the life of Jesus (Mark 1:12-13, Mark 1:35, Luke 6:12).  It’s something that He was devoted to and something that He taught His followers to do

21 Day Journey of Prayer and Fasting

Begins Next Sunday, January 8, 2017

  • T – Transformation

L – Love

This priority is all about people.

To relate to people the way Jesus related to people:

  • He was never preoccupied or distracted when He was with them
  • He loved them
  • He was attentive to them
  • It didn’t matter whether they were religious leaders or government officials or lepers, tax collectors or prostitutes

If my life is really going to be about “LOVE” then I’ve got to make it a PRIORITY

John 13:34-35 (MSG)

C – Calling

This is your one and only chance at life!  One day, every one of us will stand before God and have the opportunity to hear the God of the Universe say two words: “WELL DONE!”

Don’t go through life in the grandstands! Be FAITHFUL to the calling that God has placed on your life.

  • Develop the GIFTS God has given you
  • Use the STUFF God has placed in your life in a way that honors HIM and INSPIRES OTHERS
  • ENCOURAGE OTHER PEOPLE and CHEER THEM ON as they pursue the plan and purpose God has for their life
  • Live your life in a way that brings incredible glory to God and inspires the people God has placed in your life!

J – Joy

John 15:11 (NLT)

What would it be like to live every day filled with the joy of Jesus?

Psalm 118:24

Here are the four things I want to be a part of my life:

  • L – LOVE
  • J – JOY

You can’t SQUEEZE these things into a life that is already full... That’s why Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness...”

According to Paul the Apostle in Romans 12, one of our greatest dangers we all face is that we will let the world squeeze us into its mold... And the “mold” of this world is BUSY!

“If the devil can’t make you bad; then he’ll make you busy...” –Anonymous

The only way to deal with an overcrowded life is not to try and cram more stuff in, but to EMPTY YOUR LIFE OUT and begin your life with a CLEAN SLATE.

Begin every day by saying, “I am going to take seriously Matthew 6:33. I am going to SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD, I am going to DEVOTE MYSELF TO WHAT MATTERS MOST, I am not going to seek after the things that DON’T MATTER ALL THAT MUCH, I am going to pursue TRANSFORMATION, LOVE, my CALLING and JOY...”

A new start doesn’t come through rigorous will power; it comes by trusting God to accomplish His will and His objectives in your life.

Zechariah 4:6 (NCV)

‘You will not succeed by your own strength or power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
